Clarine Schmitz, 82, of Lime Springs, IA, died on Wednesday, February 2, 2022.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Cresco, IA with Father Jacob Rouse officiating. Rosary will be held at 10:30 on Saturday, followed by visitation from 11:00-1:00 p.m. at the church prior to the start of service for Clarine. Burial will take place at a later date in the spring at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lime Springs, IA.

Clarine Cecilia Schmitz was born on October 29, 1939, in Columbus Grove, Ohio to James and Agnes (Krietemeyer) Hoffman. Growing up in Ohio, she met her future husband, William Schmitz. On November 22, 1958, he married Clarine Hoffman at St. Anthony's Church in Columbus Grove, OH. They operated a sawmill for a time, and then owned a small farm in Ohio, but rented other land to make him a larger than average farmer. In February of 1974, they moved to a farm near Lime Springs, and began farming the land. To this union, four children were born. Clarine had a love of all things beautiful, including nature and music. She could play both the accordion and the organ, and played the organ for Chester and St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Cresco for many years. Clarine loved gardening; she just didn’t like the weeding as much. In her later years, her talents transitioned to quilting and dried flower arrangements. She loved her family deeply, and they will miss her very much.

Clarine was preceded in death by her parents; husband William in 2004; and her sister, Bernice Korte.

She is survived by her daughter Carol Schmitz of Lime Springs, IA; Alan Schmitz of Ankeny, IA; Roger (Joy) Schmitz of Hutchinson, MN; John (Amanda) Schmitz of Cresco, IA; grandchildren Cecilia, Isabelle, Owen, and Natalie; and sister Mary Ann Reese of Dayton, OH, several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
