Kenton J. “Kent” Egen, known by his friends as “Norm”, age 62, of Rochester, MN, died on Sunday, August 8, 2021, in his home.

Public visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Sunday, August 15, at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Cresco, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. Celebration of Kent's Life will continue at the Cresco Wildlife Building located on the Howard County fairgrounds.

Kent was born in Cresco, IA, on September 9, 1958, to Norma (Haessig) and Edward Egen Jr. After Kent was born, the Egens moved to Florida and lived there for 18 months. While living in Florida, Kent’s sister Kim was born. From Florida, the family moved to Newton, IA, where Kelly was born. After that the family lived in Racine, MN, Osage, IA, St. Ansgar, IA, Grand Meadow, MN, and finally back to Cresco.

As a boy, Kent loved animals. His mom, Norma, used to take the kids fishing. The fish they caught would go into a bucket, and then to a ditch by their house that held water to watch them swim and grow. In Cresco, the Egen kids had a mini-bike and go-cart that Kent loved to ride. Kent with little brother Kelly riding in front would enjoy riding through mud puddles soaking the boys in muddy water. When they were a little older, Kelly would take Kent to football practice on the mini-bike.

In the summer of 1979, Kent met Glori Dornink at the park in Cresco. On June 14, 1980, they were married. To this union 3 children were born Justin, Nicole, and Kayla. The couple moved to Preston, MN, before moving to Waterloo, IA, to work at John Deere. Kent was laid off from Deere’s and they moved back to Minnesota. The couple later divorced in 1985.

In 1991, after taking time off from attending college at Mankato State and working on a fishing boat in Alaska, Kent met Joy Peckham. Together they had 3 children Rebecca, Kyle, and Lee. Kent and Joy operated a dairy goat farm. They enjoyed going on family vacations to Wisconsin Dells. The couple separated in 2004.

Kent was a hardworking, caring, loving, humorous, hurt, Wildman, who journeyed through life the only way he knew how. He loved to drive fast and take road trips to remember where life had taken him. Kent liked Twins baseball, NASCAR, amusement parks, roller-skating, and the Dells. He also enjoyed biking, going to the lake, ice cream and sweets, and listening to classic rock n’ roll.

He is survived by his son Justin (Melissa) Egen of Rochester, MN, and their children Evan, Alexis, Jimmy, Caiden, Kody, and Micah; daughter Nicole Egen of Colorado Springs, CO, and her children Reyanna and Skylyn; daughter Kayla (Matthijs) Fraaij of Colorado Springs, CO and their children Levi, Joel, and baby on the way; daughter Rebecca (fiancé Houston Hugo) of Vinton, IA, and their children Lane and Lincoln; and son Kyle and Lee of Marion, IA; sister Kim (Rick) Holmes of Cresco, IA; brother Kelly (Valerie) Egen of Humeston, IA; 6 nieces and nephews Stacy (Jason) Hearne, Seth (Ashley) Ferrie, Shaun (Dalyann) Ferrie, Olivia (Parker) Arnold, Alex (Megan) Egen, and Ivan Egen; and great nieces and nephews Kaden and Alaina Hearne, Amelia and Adalynn Ferrie, Aubrie and Ava Ferrie, and Sophia and Eleanor Egen.

Kent is preceded in death by his parents Norma and Edward Egen, paternal grandparents Edward Sr. and Vina Egen, and maternal grandparents Delbert and Pearl Haessig.
