Mark Johnson, age 74, of Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away on January 29, 2021.

Mark Alan Johnson was born June 2, 1946 in Cresco, Iowa to Leland and Roma (Fister) Johnson. He grew up in Lime Springs, Iowa, attending grade school in Lime Springs and high school in Cresco. Mark graduated from Crestwood High School in 1964, and attended Upper Iowa University graduating in 1967. Mark went on to earn his Master’s degree in accounting from the University of North Dakota.

Mark worked as an accountant for various companies after earning his CPA. He worked for Ecolab in St Paul, MN for several years, then moved to Grand Forks, ND. Two years later he went to work with Jim Bradshaw at Strata Corporation as Chief Financial Officer for the next 33 years retiring in September, 2020.

Mark is survived by Amelia Ortega, his wife of 25 years as well as his sister Deanne Schabert. Mark was the proud step-father to Amy’s three boys (David, Chris & Phil). Grandfather to Charlie, Gus, Eva & Ethan. Always a loving and attentive uncle to his niece (Suzie) and nephew (Jon) and beloved to his extended family and many friends.

Mark was a happy person who enjoyed his life. Mark was always very kind & generous. He loved to share meals with friends, whether it was something he & Amy prepared at home or at one of their favorite restaurants. You could always count on Mark to pair that meal with a Coke!

Pets were a big part of Mark’s life, including his beloved basset hound (Hannah) and his Goldendoodle (Daisy). Mark very much enjoyed being a do-it-yourself home-owner and taking the lead on innumerable projects from his extensive home-workshop. He and Amy enjoyed cross-country road trips, often with family and friends, and especially to the Southwest.

Mark was one of a kind and will be lovingly remembered and missed by all who knew him.

There will be a graveside service in honor of Mark on Saturday, September 4th at 1:30pm at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lime Springs, Iowa.
