Reuben Walton Beadle, youngest san{sic} of Reuben and Mary Beadle, was born in the year 1832, Oct. 22nd, in Hillier twp., Ontario, in the town of Picton.
He came to the States in 1859 and on June 3, 1860, was united in marriage with Arvilla Fall, second daughter of Rev. George W. and Hannah Fall. A short time after, in company with C. M. Carver and J. J. Lowry, he journeyed overland to Pike’s Peak, returning in the fall of 1860. The following year Mr. and Mrs. Beadle went to Canada, but returned the latter part of the following year. He was one of the first settlers in Cresco and has been identified with the growth of the town to the present.
There were eight children, all born in Cresco, except the oldest son, Geo., who was born in Decorah. All the children are still living except George who died in 1890 in Whatcome, Wash.
The remaining children are: Mrs. Minnie Lent of Cresco, Charles of Minneapolis, Mrs. Addie Williams of Omaha, Mrs. Emma Caward and Mrs. Allie Seely of Mason City, Mrs. Mary Doan of Hopkinton, Mrs. Ruby Glass of Clinton; and ten grandchildren. The wife and mother passed away 20 years ago last September.
Mr. Beadle died April 1st, in his 84th year. Funeral services conducted by Rev. John Gammons were held at the home of W. B. Lent and burial was at Oaklawn.
