Marcia Kaye Murray, 69, of Cresco, Iowa passed away at her home on Thursday, March 4, 2021.

Marcia Kaye Borgan was born to Olaf and Jean Borgan on May 14, 1951. She graduated from Crestwood High School in 1969 and married Gary Murray on July 5, 1969. Marcia began working for the Howard-Winneshiek Community School District in 1970, retiring in 2008 after 38 years of service. She was instrumental in organizing the Howard-Winneshiek Clerical Association and working tirelessly for better wages and benefits for all clerical employees.

Music was always front and center in Marcia’s life; beginning at a very early age when her Mom would accompany her as she sang for wedding showers and any other event at church. She was a 25-year member of the Elm Street Singers and participated in Cresco Community Theater playing ‘Maria’ in The Sound of Music. Marcia was also a member of the barbershop quartet, “Keynotes”, and member of the gospel group “Faithful Heart” for many years. She loved to sing harmony and glorify her Lord in song.

Marcia’s faith journey began in 1973 when she accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. Her Faith was very important to her and even though she failed miserably on multiple occasions, she knew that the Lord forgave her – “for you alone have I sinned against” – past, present, and future – always forgiven. You see a transaction had taken place in 1973; she owed a debt she could not pay, He paid a debt He did not owe. She should be hanging on that cruel cross.

Marcia and Gary were blessed with three beautiful children: Tiffany, Cory, and Jessy. They, along with their spouses, Jason Olejniczak, Monica Murray, and Joshua Whitinger and grandchildren Emma, Kaleb, and Lydia Olejniczak, Cody (Tessy Hunt) and Abby Murray, Evelyn, Lucas, Ada, and Miles Whitinger, great grandson, Thatcher Murray, await on earth for a reuniting date in heaven, as well as husband, Gary.

Marcia is also survived by a sister Betty Lightle of Arlington, VA, and Linda (Ray) Murphy of Lime Springs, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father Edward Mundfrom; brother Duane Borgan, sister-in-law Suzie Borgan; brother-in-law Hal Lightle; step-brother Eddie Mundfrom; step-sister Carolyn Olsen; step-nephew Alan Mundfrom; mother and father-in-law Hank and Lucille Dotzler, Jr., and brother-in-law Terry Murray.
