Rita Roberts, age 60, of Lime Springs, Iowa passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2021.

A public visitation will be held from 2:00 - 7:00 pm on Friday, January 22, 2021 at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Cresco, Iowa. Due to the current limitations of public gatherings a private family service will be held. Masks will be required.

The family is planning a celebration in honor of Rita to be held during her favorite time of year, July 4th weekend.

Rita was born on October 30, 1960 in Columbus, Wisconsin to Jerome and Beatrice (Schmitt) Weisensel. She attended St. Jerome Catholic Grade School and Columbus High School graduating in 1978.

Rita worked in banking before moving to Houston, Texas where she fell in love with an Iowa boy, after being set up on a date by her parents and soon to be mother in-law. Rita moved to Lime Springs in the fall of 1986. After a motorcycle accident in 1987, she married the love of her life, Tony, at the Saint Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota on August 29, 1987. The date was special to the couple, as it was her Mom’s birthday and she wore her mother in-laws gown. Rita always teased it was because of “the Moms” that she was this happy.

Rita held many jobs from bartending, clerking, tutoring, to becoming the first female hired in the Fareway Meat Department in Cresco. She loved her work at Notre Dame School as a secretary and food service director. In 1999, enroute to a family Christmas she applied for a dispatcher position with the Howard County Sheriff and was hired in January 2000 where she was still working. She was an active volunteer in the community with Junior Community Club, Firemen Auxiliary, Children’s Theatre, Boy Scouts, Vacation Bible School and My Club Mentoring. A member of Notre Dame Parish landed her a position as a CCD teacher and lector. Rita enjoyed fishing, 4-wheeling, playing cards, but mostly spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Tony of Lime Springs, a son, Thomas (Cami) of Clarksville, TN, siblings; Terry (Marcia) Weisensel of Sun Prairie, WI and Tim (Candy) Weisensel of Wautoma, WI. Rita is also survived by her in-laws; Tim Roberts of Lime Springs, Ann (Bruce) Saulnier of Ft Meyer, FL, Rena (Dean) Pecinovsky of Grand Meadow, MN, Ed (Jill) Roberts of Grand Meadow, MN and Ted (Amy) Roberts of Lime Springs, several nieces, nephews, aunts uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, mother and father in-law and a sister in-law Diana Roberts.
