Christina Ohmacht, nee Grotzka, was born July 12, 1834, in Loitz, Pommerian, Germany, and died in the hope of eternal life in Cresco, Iowa, Sept. 4, 1915, aged 81 years, 1 month and 23 days.
Sister Ohmacht grew to womanhood in the land of her nativity, and in the year 1860 she came to the U. S., settling in Barrington, Ill. The same year she united in marriage with John Ohmacht who preceded her in death 15 years ago.
To this union were born eight children, five of whom are left to mourn the loss of mother. They are as follows: Wm. Ohmacht, Danvers, Minn.; Mrs. Emma Frank, Chicago, Ill.; Sam Ohmacht, Oak Park, Minn.; Mrs. Ida Burnickel and John Ohmacht of Cresco, Iowa; also three step-children. She also leaves twenty grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Shortly after coming to the United States Sister Ohmacht experienced a change of heart, being converted under the preaching of Bishop Esher.
For over 55 years she loved and served her Savior and improved every, opportunity of testifying to what God had done for her.
She rests from her labors and her works do follow her.
Funeral services were held in the German Lutheran church Monday afternoon conducted by Rev. Pless and Rev. Scholer and burial was at Oaklawn.
