Death of Mrs. Sage.
The many friends of Mrs. G. B. Sage were shocked to hear of her sudden death which occurred at 1:30 o'clock Wednesday morning, Jan. 17. Death was due to apoplexy and came very peacefully.
Ellen Lucy Markham was born Oct. 25, 1858 in Cattaraugus county, N. Y., and with her parents moved to Sparta, Wis., when a small child, thence to Cresco, Iowa.
She was married to Mr. George B. Sage Oct. 20, 1878 near Cresco, Iowa. She and her husband moved to Prairie du Chien, Wis., where they made their home until fourteen years ago, when they located in this city, having lived here ever since.
Of this union there were six children born: Arthur M., who died in infancy; Elsie Marjorie, who preceded her mother three years ago; three daughters, Mrs. Jessie Duvall, of Chetek, Mrs. Stella Maud Marotta, of Spooner, and Miss Lulu Mary Sage, of Minneapolis; one son Benjamin who resides at home. The four children last mentioned, together with her husband, survive her.
Mrs. Sage was an estimable woman and her death is deeply mourned by a large circle of friends. Her devotion to her husband and family occupied her time; but she always was friendly and neighborly and won a warm place in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to form her acquaintance. She was a true member of the Methodist Episcopal church, Ladies’ Aid, Missionary society and W. C. T. U.
The funeral services were conducted this afternoon at 2 o’clock at the M. E. church, Rev. J. T. Kneen officiating and interment was in Spooner cemetery. Many beautiful floral offerings were in evidence as tokens of esteem to a loved one departed.
Among the relatives from put' of town were: Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Duvall, Chetek; Miss Lulu Sage, Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Temple, Shell Lake; Miss Hattie Markham and William Markham, sister and brother of the deceased, from Cresco, Iowa.— Spooner Advocate.
