Death of Jerry F. Powell.
The Minneapolis Tribune of Jan. 25 contained an item concerning the death of Jeremiah F. Powell, a Howard county pioneer, on Friday of last week in Minneapolis at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nina Ryan. He was born in Indiana 76 years ago and enlisted in 1861 in Co. I, 9th Iowa, the company recruited mainly from Howard county, serving about four years. He served as sheriff of this county for four terms after the war and went to Minnesota in 1878 when he was appointed agricultural agent of the Sisseton Indian Reservation. He was later engaged in the fuel business in Minneapolis and mercantile business in St. Paul. He was married in Cresco to Mrs. Minerva Lee. He leaves three brothers and two daughters to mourn its loss.
