From there went to New Orleans and after a trip through the south, terminating at St. Louis, he went by boat, via the cape, to the California gold fields, later going to the Cariboo mines in British Columbia and then to Nevada where he held mining property at the time of his death, spending in all about six years in mining. He returned to Wisconsin and came to Iowa in 1868, purchasing a farm in Albion upon which he resided until he moved to Cresco in 1902, where the family resided until their removal in March, 1911, to Marmarth, N. D., where Mr. DeLange died Sept. 29th from chronic diabetes, at the age of 81 years, 6 months and 28 days.
On July 12, 1868, he was united in marriage to Mary E. Geuth, and to them nine children were born, one of whom died in infancy. Those surviving who with their invalid mother are left to mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate husband and father are: Fred G., S. Claire and Frank of Marmarth, N. D., Mrs. Isabel Cooley of McLaughlin, S. D., Mrs. Pauline Gray of High- more, S. D.. Mrs. Barbara Barbour of Candle, Alaska, and A. C. of Detroit. Mich. He also leaves a brother, W. F. Mr. DeLange was a devoted member of the Masonic fraternity, taking his master mason’s degree in 1885. He also belonged to the R. A. M. and with his wife was a charter member of the Eastern Star. During his last days in one of his times of consciousness, he called for his Masonic apron which meant so much to him.
Mr. DeLange was always a staunch and unswerving democrat in politics, and his opinions were always welcome in the councils of his party. At different times his neighbors honored him with township and school offices.
He was one of the county’s good citizens, honest and upright to a marked degree; and no neighbor or worthy object or enterprise ever appealed in vain to him for assistance. His forceful character left a deep impress for good upon his associates and the community in which he resided
Those from a distance attending the funeral were his children, F. G., Claire, and Mrs. Cooley and the latter's husband, and his brother and his two daughters from Wisconsin.
