Mrs. Anna Schaefer passed away Monday night at her home in the First ward, at the age of 87 years, 6 months and 5 days. The funeral was held on Wednesday morning at St Joseph’s church, with interment in St Joseph’s cemetery.

SCHAEFER.
Mrs. Anna Bargman Schaefer was born at Holy City, Loraine, November 21, 1826 and died at her home in Cresco, Iowa, May 26, 1913. Deceased was 87 years, 6 months and 5 days of age. In 1840 she immigrated to America, being 97 days on the Atlantic. Her early life was spent in the East and South. During the Civil War, she was a nurse in the Confederate Army. After the war she made her home at Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where by accident she missed the “Lady Elgin” on her fatal trip. In the late ’70’s, she was married to Joseph Schaefer, and from this union was born one son, Henry. She was confined to bed the last five years and had prepared to make the journey to the Great Beyond, being always patient and a firm believer in the doctrine of her church.
The funeral services were held at St. Joseph's Church, Rev. Father Wagner officiating, and the remains were laid to rest at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. May her soul rest in peace.Transcriber’s Note: Her gravestone in Calvary Cresco Cemetery shows she was born in 1823.
