A Useful Life Ended.
“There is no death.” The mysterious something which we call death is but the transitition{sp} of the soul from this world to one infinitley{sp} more happy, yet no matter how long the silent messenger may have been expected nor how tranquil the passing of the dear one who has called upon to leave this world of sorrows, those left, behind find it hard, sometimes, to bow in submission to the summons of the Omnipotent and give up the dear for the life beyond the grave.
The angel of death has again visited our midst and called to her Heavenly home a devoted wife and mother. Mrs. Owens was one of those of whom it may be said that the world was better was better because she lived in it. She was born in New York sixty nine years ago, and was married to William Owens at the age of twenty. Most of her life was spent in Iowa, in Fayette and Howard counties. About five years ago Mr. and Mrs. Owens moved from their farm near Lourdes to Elma where they have since resided. Afflicted for many months with a wasting malady, she was ever an edifying example of patience to those around her. Through the weary hours of pain she forgot herself in her concern for others, and placed her trust in Him to whom she had always been faithful. Her last hours were hallowed by the rites of the Catholic Church, and her death was peaceful and happy.
She was the mother of twelve children, eight sons and four daughters, who with their father have the sympathy of hosts of friends in this their time of sorrow.
