MINTEY.
Jane B. Hunter was born March 13, 1827, in County Tyrone, Ireland, and there grew to womanhood. At the age of 20, she in company with a younger sister, sailed for America, coming to Warren, Ohio July 26, 1854, she was united in marriage with Alfred J. Mintey, who survives her. To this marriage six children were born, three boys and three girls, two sons dying in infancy, and two daughters, Mrs. W. Perry, and Mrs. Emma Friend having died after reaching maturer years. Two children, John H. of Cresco, and Mrs. Ben Scott, of Charles City, one sister Mrs. Wm. Owens, of Gettysburg, S. Dak., 12 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren are left to mourn the loss of a devoted wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She was baptized in the Episcopal church when an infant; as she grew older was confirmed in the same church, keeping the faith in her chosen church until the end, dying Jan. 17, 1913, at the advanced age of 85 years, 9 months and 29 days.
With the death of Mrs. Mintey there comes another break in the ranks of the early pioneers of Howard county, she with her husband, coming to New Oregon in the late 50s, and making that place their home ever since, and in all that time have held the respect and esteem of their neighbors and a wide circle of acquaintances.
Funeral services conducted by Rev. John Gammons, were held at New Oregon, Sabbath afternoon. Burial was in New Oregon cemetery.
