Shirley McCarville, age 70, of LeRoy, MN, died Thursday, June 11, 2020, at her home in LeRoy.

A private family service will be held. Burial will be held at a later date in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 16, at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Cresco. Due to COVID-19 restrictions masks are recommended and social distancing will be practiced.

Shirley was born May 20, 1950, to Dale and Lucille (VanDerHeyden) Kruse in Cresco, IA. She attended and graduated from Crestwood High School and went on to school to receive her associate’s degree. On July 1, 1967, she was united in marriage to Tom Beck at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Chester, IA. Together the couple had 5 children: LeAnn, Brad, Jody, Marty and Matt. They were later separated. Shirley was later married to Robert “Bob” McCarville Sr., he passed away January 26, 2019.

When she was first married to Tom, Shirley ran an upholstery and purse making business in Lime Springs, and then moved her business out to their farm. In 1984, she went to work for Sara Lee in New Hampton, IA until 2000. After Sara Lee closed their doors, she went back to school to become a medical transcriptionist. In 2001, she began a new career as a medical transcriptionist for Mayo Clinic, and retired in 2018. Shirley was a very active lady. She was known to not be able to sit still very long. After her retirement from Mayo, she took a job at Sweet’s Motel in LeRoy to fill her time. Shirley kept a meticulous home, yard, flower beds, and garden. She had a bright green thumb and could make anything grow. In her leisure time, Shirley kept her hands busy by crocheting afghans for her family.

Shirley was the type of person to always put others first, mainly when it came to her grandchildren. She supported all their extracurricular activities, and made scrapbooks from newspaper clippings. Shirley especially enjoyed following Jake’s baseball games.

Shirley is survived by her children: LeAnn (John) Slavin, Brad (Ashley) Beck, Jody (Dena Strain) Beck, Marty (Samantha) Beck and Matt Beck.

She is also survived be extended family, Lori (Mike) McConnell of Cresco, IA, Robert (special friend Fabricio) McCarville Jr. of Miami, Florida, Lisa Peter of Mason City, IA, David McCarville, Dubuque, IA, Susan (Roger) Meyer, Decorah, IA and Jennifer (Grant) Kellogg of Cedar Rapids, Ia.

Grandchildren: Mattie, Kendel, Gabe and Bryleigh Slavin, Zach (Morgan Martin) Beck, Cody Beck, Brychan, Piper, and Kanon Beck, and extended grandchildren: Emily (Evan) Freese, Jesse (Kasey Bruns) McConnell, Jacob Peter (Carli Cook), Evan (Shana) Meyer, Elise (Phil) Linn, Payton, Riley and David McCarville, Kiera and Kaine Kellogg. Great Grandchildren Caleb and Owen Meyer, Aaron Linn, Axel and Crue Freese

Her siblings: Jerry (Andrea) Kruse of Yuma, AZ, Ron Kruse of Lime Springs, IA, Mary (Pete) Peterson of Preston, MN, Maxine (Marc) Stockman of Lime Springs, IA, Dale (Cathy) Kruse Decorah, IA, Gary (Anne) Kruse of Hayfield, MN, Sharon (Terry) Larson of Lime Springs, IA, Lynn (Karen) Kruse of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Gail (Jim) Ludens St. Charles, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Richard Kruse, and son-in-law Win Peter.
