Margaret (Cummings) Burkett, 91, of Cresco, IA, died peacefully on Monday, February 24, 2020, at Evans Memorial Home of Cresco.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Notre Dame Catholic Church on Saturday, February 29, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Jacob Rouse officiating. Visitation will be held at the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home on Friday, February 28, 2020, from 4:00-7:00 p.m., and also one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Burial will be at a later date. Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Margaret Cummings was born May 17, 1928, to Emmett and Mary (Harris) Cummings in Elma, Iowa. She grew up on a farm near Cresco, attended rural school and after graduating from Assumption High School moved to Chicago. She married Marvin E. Burkett in 1949, and lived in the Chicago area until moving to St. Paul, MN, and later White Bear Lake, MN. Margaret worked for Sears Roebuck in Chicago and St. Paul with the exception of five years when she traveled most of the US with Marvin who was a Railroad Mfgr. Rep.

They enjoyed fishing in the Minnesota Lakes. Two years after Marvin’s death in 1983, she moved back to Cresco. Much of her family lived in and nearby. She enjoyed her many nieces and nephews and friends. She was active in her church and community and spent many hours volunteering.

Margaret is survived by nieces and nephews Kate Dunagan, Rita Vodraska, Frank Cummings, Donna Ryan, Dan Cummings, Dave Cummings, Tom Peckham, Jim McGee, Sue Bothun, Ann McGee, Mary Kay Heumann-Walton, Roy Cummings, Mona Ash, Mark Cummings, Lee Cummings, Glen Cummings, Bobby Cummings, Brian Cummings, Mike Cummings, Mavis Miller, Marlys Mayer, Pat Fuller, Judy Carlson, Terry Cummings, Sharon Zobeck, Steve Cummings, John Cummings, Tom Cummings, Bob Cummings, Julie Titus, Jill McConnell and many great nieces and nephews.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Marvin, her parents Emmett and Mary, brothers Donald, George, Thomas, William, James, and Richard, and sisters Marie, Edna, Geneva, and Irene, niece Ruthann Lueck and nephews Steve Peckham, Bill Peckham, Carl Cummings and Jerry (Kenny) Cummings.
