Death by Suicide
E. C. Strayer committed suicide at about 5:30 yesterday morning, in a fit of despondency. He rose early and without doing or saying anything to arouse suspicion of his intention, retired to the alley back of his house and shot himself in the head with a shotgun which he borrowed from a neighbor a few days ago. Death was practically instantaneous, as he was just breathing when his son reached him. The funeral will be held probably on Wednesday afternoon.

Transcriber’s Note: His gravestone in Oak Lawn Cemetery shows he was born in 1858.
