OBITUARY.
Our little village was cast in saddest gloom the latter part of last week on account of the wholly unexpected and sudden death of Mrs. Chris Glass after about a week illness.
Mrs. Glass had been a patient sufferer from asthma for about ten or twelve years, but since coming to Henry a little over a year ago it seemed this climate agreed with her and the past winter was the best she she{sic} had spent in years. A week before her death she contracted a cold and with her weak condition she was unable to resist. She peacefully passsed{sp} away Friday the 26th, at 11:15 a m., fortified by the sacred rites of the Catholic church of which she was a devoted member.
Miss Celia Turner was born in New York state in 1852 and died in Henry, S. D., April 26, 1912. At the age of 18 years she was united in marriage in Wisconsin to John Fravel. To this union three children were born, Will, Sydney, and Lillian (now Mrs. Cummings) all of whom live in Chicago. After a short three or four years of happy wedded life her husband died.
She was a widow eight years when she married Chris Glass of Cresco, Iowa, and to this union four children were born, Eva, Viola, Ralph and Loretta of whom she is survived by only Loretta. Eva, (Mrs. Chas Zender) died in this village a little over a year ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Glass sold their farm near Cresco, Iowa in the fall of 1910 and moved to Henry in March 1911 for the sole benefit of deceased health. Their stay here was of short duration, but in that short time they made many friends all of whom will greatly miss the kind and loving disposition of the wife and mother, and extend the sheerest sympathy to the aged husband and daughter, and also the children in Chicago.
The funeral was held from St. Henry's church Saturday at 10:30 a. m. Requiem Mass was celebrated by Rev. T. Slattery and the remains brought back to the home where it laid until Sunday evening and then shipped to Cresco, Iowa, where the interment was made after the arrival there Monday afternoon. A large number of sympathizing friends followed the remains to the depot. The Glass family shipped their goods Sunday and have left Henry, and for a time at least Mr. Glass and Loretta will make their home with relatives. Miss Loretta gave up her school here for the remainder of the year. She had also accepted the school for another year but her place will have to be supplied by some else one.—Henry (S. D.) Independent.
