OBITUARY.
George Washington Hollister, son of Pierpont Hollister and Martha Wallace, was born in South Manchester, Conn., Sept. 2, 1825, where he grew to manhood. During the rush to California in 1849, he went to that place, remaining there until 1853 when he went to Illinois to reside. In 1856 he was married to Eliza White Goldy, on the 23rd day of July. Mrs. Hollister preceded her husband to the better land about two years previous to his death.
In 1858 they moved to Iowa, settling on a farm near Cresco. In 1898 he moved to the city of Cresco where he has since resided.
He became a member of the Methodist Episcopal church when a young man, and has remained a devoted Christian ever since. He died March the 31st, 1912.
He leaves to mourn his loss, one daughter, Mrs. May G. Doolittle, one son, C. H. Hollister, one sister, Mrs. Mary Truman of Rockford, Ill., two grand-children, Rollo and Ralph Doolittle, also two great grand-sons.
Mr. Hollister was a man who had made and kept many friends. He was a genial and unassuming Christian man. The loss of his beloved wife had been a great blow to him. The reunion will be the fulfillment of his hopes and prayers.
The funeral services were conducted from the residence at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon of this week.
