Elizabeth Derm was born in Aug. 1834, in County Meath, Ireland, and passed away on Thursday, March 28, 1912, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. V. Ahern, of Orleans twp., aged 77 years, and five months. In 1834,{sic} at St. Louis she was united in marriage to Michael Purcell, and to them ten children were born, all but one of whom are still living. Of late Mr. and Mrs. Purcell have been residents of Oakes, N. D., but for the past few years on account of old age, have spent the winters with their children and in accordance with this custom, came to Cresco last fall to spend the winter with their daughter.
The funeral took place Saturday at the Church of the Assumption with interment in St. Joseph’s cemetery.
Those from a distance who attended the funeral were her two sons. Mark and Thos. Purcell, of Minneapolis, and two granddaughters, Mrs. Emma Stewart, of River Falls, Wis., and Miss Marcella Ahern, of St. Ansgar.

Transcriber’s Note: Her gravestone in Calvary Cresco Cemetery shows her name as Eliza Durham Purcell and that she was born in 1836. Also the date of her marriage is obviously in error.
