William Robert Owen was born in Carnarvonshire, North Wales, March 8, 1849. In 1865 he came to the United States and made his home in New Oregon. On May 7, 1872, he was united in marriage to Maria J. Bowers; shortly afterward they came to Cresco which has been their home ever since. During all these years, Mr. Owen has been identified with the business interests of Cresco, his own business career being an example of honesty and industry. He had a kind disposition and a tender heart which won him many friends, especially among the children.
About two years ago his health began to fail, He endured suffering with his characteristic fortitude and patience, but about a month ago he began to fail rapidly and it became evident that he must yield to the grim reaper. During the pastorate of Rev. Winsor he united with the Congregational church of which he remained a member until his death. He died on Wednesday morning, December 14th, at 7 o’clock. He leaves his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Zumvorde of St. Paul, with two grandchildren, two sisters in Wales, two nephews and three nieces.
Funeral services conducted by Revs. Hinman and Gammons were hold at his late residence Friday morning at 10 o’clock. The music was rendered by Messrs. Wm. and Arthur Patterson, Dana Mead and C. C. Burgess. Interment was in Oak Lawn.
The floral offerings were profuse and beautiful, consisting of bouquets of cut flowers, potted plants and a large wreath of roses sent by the C. M. & St. Paul Ry.
