OBITUARY.
Samuel Van Slyke was born Feb. 28, 1822, at Stockbridge Hill, Madison County, New York. Oct. 6, 1844, he was married with Catherine Vandewarker in Courtland County, New York, who died in 1868. To this union, two children were born, J. A. and J. J. Van Slyke. He has been married twice since, both having preceded him in death. In 1869, Mr. Van Slyke came to Cresco and for about 25 years he was the owner and proprietor of the Van Slyke House in this city. He departed this life, May 7, 1910, and leaves one son, Mr. J. J. Van Slyke, of Cresco, and four grandchildren. The funeral took place Monday afternoon from the M. E. church, Rev. Gammons officiating. Interment was in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
