On Thursday evening Feb. 10, 1910, we were again visited by the angel of of{sic} death and this time one of the oldest persons of Howard countv was called to her reward. Ellen Mulldoon was born in the year 1827, in Fermanagh Ireland. She resided there until her parents until she was 23 years of age when she came to America. The next year she was married to Patrick Riley at Oswego, New York. They resided in New York until 1857, when they moved to Iowa settling on a farm near Cecelia. They were the parents of six children, four of whom, three daughters and one son, are dead. Two sons both living near Elma, Nicholas and Stephen, survive. Mr. Riley died about seven years ago. Mrs. Riley was a woman of refined qualities and womanly instincts and beloved by all. She will be sadly missed by the large list of friends who knew her so well. As one of Howard county’s pioneers she was known far and wide for her hospitality and ministration. The funeral was held from the Immaculate Conception church in Elma Saturday, February 12th and the large crowd assembled there despite the inclemency of the weather was ample proof of the esteem in which she was held by her many relatives and friends. Interment took place at Cecelia.
