Ronald J. Gebel, age 79 of Alta Vista, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at Colonial Manor in Elma, IA.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, November 4, 2019 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Alta Vista, IA with Father Jerry Kopacek celebrating the mass. Burial will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Alta Vista, IA.

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 PM on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in Elma with a 3:30 PM Scriptural Wake Service and a 4:00 PM Rosary. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the funeral mass on Monday. Online condolences may be left at www.conway-markhamfh.com . Memorials may be directed to the family.

Ronald “Ron” Joseph Gebel was born June 5, 1940, the son of Walter and Emma (Novy) Gebel in Elma, IA. He attended and graduated from Immaculate Conception School in Elma. After completing his education, Ron enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Army Reserves for five years. When Ron returned home from the service he began farming outside of Elma. On May 4, 1963, Ron was united in marriage to Judith Lutkenhaus in Festina, IA. The couple made their home in Maple Leaf and continued to farm for several years prior to moving to Alta Vista, where they raised their four children, Aaron, Marc, Robin and April. Together Ron and Judy founded the Nite Lite Bar and Restaurant for 29 years until their retirement in 2000. After retiring, Ron enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing cards and going to baseball games. His family was his pride and joy. He was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, The Alta Vista VFW and Elma American Legion.

Those left to cherish Ron’s memory are his wife, Judy of Alta Vista; four children, Aaron (Lana) Gebel of Alta Vista, Marc (Jennifer) Gebel of New Hampton, Robin (Rusty) Nolan of Grimes, IA, April (Brian) Welsh of Elgin, IL; his 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Kenneth (Mary Ann) Gebel of Elma, IA; his sister-in-law, Margaret Gebel of Ankeny, IA and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Cletus Gebel.
