OBITUARY.
MEIGHAN.
At his home near Lime Springs, Iowa, Dec. 18, 1909, Mr. Edward Meighan.
The deceased was born at Darlington, Wisconsin, February 2, 1840, and at his death was 69 years, 10 months and 16 days of age. Mr. Meighen was the youngest of four sons of Mr. and Mrs. Owen Meighen and has two brothers, John, of Darlington and James of Slayton, Minn., still living.
April, 16, 1861, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Lynch of Darlington and in 1871, they moved to Cresco, Iowa, until four years later when they took up their residence near Lime Springs and have lived in this vicinity since.
To this union were born 9 children, Augusta M. and Edward of Donnybrook, N. D., William, of Houston, Texas, Mrs. Ernie Duerdin of Lime Springs, Dolly, George L., Perry J. and Walter W., all residing at home. One daughter, Minnie, died in 1882, at the age of 15 years.
The deceased was of a strong constitution and hardly knew what sickness was until three years ago when he was stricken with paralysis and since then his health was not so good. Up until his death he had been able to be around but did not do any work.
Of his character we can but say, one who knew him heard but a kind word of welcome and kindly greeting. He was highly respected by all who knew him and left behind a large circle of friends and neighbors. Kind hands and loving, hearts helped lay him to rest in Pleasant Hill cemetery by the side of his daughter Minnie. The bereaved widow and children have the sympathy of the entire community.Transcriber’s Note: His gravestone shows different dates – February 2, 1837 – December 18, 1910. (the months and days are the same but the years are different).
