Katie Kelly died at her home in Elma one day last week after a lingering illness. Miss Kelly was one of Elma’s popular sales lady and will be greatly missed by her many friends. The funeral was held from the Immaculate Conception church on Wednesday morning and one of the largest ever held from that church. We hope to publish an obituary next week.

We are again called upon to mourn for one of our departed members, and this time it is Katherine Agnes Kelly, who died at her home in Elma, Sept. 20, 1909.
Katherine Kelly was the daughter of Thomas and Bridget Kelly, of Cecelia, and was born on the 27th day of June, 1865.
She lived for many years with her parents on the farm, and eleven years ago she came to Elma and set up a small grocery store and up to the time of her death she still kept her store and allowed it to be run by other hands when she was too ill to attend to it.
Katie was a kind, cheerful person, and no one knowing her could but regret that her short sojourn on this earth was ended. Her life, as her death, was one long reconciliation to the will of the Divine Master.
Since the beginning of her illness, which proved to be her last, cordial interest was manifested in the frequent enquiries and encouraging wishes of her many friends. All felt sincere pleasure when improved conditions were
pleasure when improved conditions were reported, and although they knew that the end was near, the shock was general when the untimely end was at last reported.
“As one lives so shall he die,” and our departed friend’s confidence in her Heavenly Father is best expressed in her own words uttered shortly before the final summons: “I can meet my God with a smile.” Of those who had the sad pleasure of assisting at her bedside to the last, no one could but say: “May my death be as reconciled and peaceful as hers.”
All Elma has lost a warm hearted friend from their midst and the family have lost their all. To them in their sad bereavement, we offer our sincere condolences and trust that God in his eternal glory will give |them strength to become reconciled to their great loss.
The funeral occurred Wednesday morning from the Immaculate Conception church which had been appropriately draped in purple and white.
The throng that filled the spacious church was ample proof of the esteem in which this good woman was held. Her friend of a life-time, Rev. Gunn, celebrated Requiem High Mass and the ealogium was preached by Rev. Father Tibeau.
All the business houses in the city were closed during the funeral service as a mark of respect to their deceased friend.
The deceased leaves two brothers and two sisters, Mrs. Pat. Dunn and Miss Mayme Kelly, and Thomas and John Kelly all of Elma and vicinity.Transcriber’s Note: I cannot find where she is buried; however, it appears her parents are buried in St. Patrick’s Cemetery but their name is spelled Kelley.
