OBITUARY.
BARFOOT
At the residence of B. T. Barfoot, in Decorah, Iowa, Friday April 23rd, 1909, Mary Elizabeth, wife of Enos F. Barfoot, residents of Banner county, Nebraska.
Mary Elizabeth Mason was born at Port Henry, N. Y., January 27th, 1860. In 1866 her father’s family came west and settled in Howard county, Iowa. February 11th, 1883, she united her fortunes by marriage with Enos F. Barfoot, then a resident of Madison township. Winneshiek county, Iowa. In the spring of 1888 they joined in what seems almost manifest destiny by seeking a home “out west” where vacant lands were plentiful and cheap. This they found in Banner county on the border line between Nebraska and Wyoming. As usual it was a long struggle to create a home and "get a start;” but at last this result was accomplished. Three daughters came to them to brighten and aid them in making a happy home.
A few weeks ago Mrs. Barfoot was called back to Iowa by the death of her brother Thomas Mason who was buried at Cresco. This duty done deceased came to Decorah to pay a visit with her relatives by marriage. She had been in ill health for some time, but not enough so to create any alarm. Here her illness became acute; Bright’s disease developed rapidly and progressed to a speedy death.
—Decorah Republican.
Funeral services were held in Decorah last Monday from the Barfoot home, Rev. Wellington McVettie officiating. The remains were taken to Cresco for interment beside her father, mother and other members of her family.
