John T. Ward, another member of Company I, 38 Iowa Regiment, died recently in the hospital at Port Hudson. This regiment, although never in battle, is largely depleted by death from disease. While it is but sharing the fate of other regiments, its losses seem astounding to our people for its dead are largely from among those but lately in our midst.
