Joseph Meyers passed away yesterday afternoon in a hospital in Chicago, where he has been for treatment during the past two weeks. He underwent a minor operation a week ago Monday last and experienced considerable relief therefrom and no intimation was had of any serious condition arising until a telegram was received Wednesday morning stating that some of his relatives had better come to him and in the afternoon a telegram was received announcing his death. Theo. Lusson and P. M. Herold took the night train for Chicago to escort the remains home and are expected to return this morning. The funeral will probably be held Saturday morning at St. Joseph's church.

Obituary.
Joseph Meyer, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Meyer, was born in Howard County, February 5, 1876, and died in a hospital in Chicago on June 18, 1908, aged 32 years, 4 months and 13 days. He resided with his parents on the homestead northwest of Cresco until his marriage on May 7, 1901, to Miss Sophie Herold, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. M. Herold, of New Oregon Township. From the time of his marriage he resided on the Wolliung farm until this spring he moved to a farm he had bought located about three miles north of Cresco.
He leaves to mourn his loss a wife and four children in addition to his parents, five sisters and a brother.
The funeral was held on Saturday forenoon at St. Joseph’s church with interment in St. Joseph’s cemetery. The funeral was one of the most largely attended ever held in this vicinity, attesting in no small degree the high esteem in which the deceased was held by his neighbors and acquaintances. Quiet and unassuming but a man of honesty, industry and character his death is universally regretted and the sympathy of all goes out to the sorrowing wife and little ones.
