Death of Mrs. John G. Melaas.
Last Tuesday morning, after an illness of only a few days, ending in pneumonia, Mrs. John G. Melaas, a resident of section 18, on the border line road between Bluffton and Orleans townships, passed into eternal rest. Mrs. M. and her husband were pioneer settlers in that part of Winneshiek county, and besides by industry and thrift accumulating a handsome property, also reared a family of ten sons and five daughters, all of whom, save one son, survive their aged mother. The father still lives, but is in feeble health, resulting from old age. Dr. Kessel of Cresco was called to attend the deceased last Sunday, but pneumonia had already begun its subtle and fatal work. We are not supplied with the details needy for a complete obituary. It is enough to say that a faithful wife and mother has completed a life work.—Decorah Republican.Source: Twice-A-Week Plain Dealer Jan. 17, 1908, FP, C1
