OBITUARY.
Betsy E. White was born in Barnstown, Canada East, Quebec, on the 15th day of June, 1826. She was the seventh of a family of twelve and was the sixth daughter. With the exception of one son who died at the age of two years, all of these children grew to manhood and womanhood. The ceased was the last of the daughters to pass away.
Her earlier years, until the age of 20, were spent at the home of her parents after which she spent two years with brothers and sisters in Boston. Then with members of the family she came West and settled in Dodge County, Wisconsin.
In 1848, she was married to Philander C. Sanborn. To this union were born six children; five were born in Wisconsin and one in Iowa, and one daughter, Ina, died in 1887. Five sons survive and were present during the last days of her illness. She is also survived by three brothers; one in Michigan, one in Missouri and one in California. Her husband died at the old home farm, Feb. 6, 1895.
In 1860, Mrs. Sanborn was baptized and received into membership in the Baptist church in which denomination her parents and most of the older relatives had been members for many years. She was one who had great respect for all Christian organizations. She had much sympathy and love for the Catholics, and read much relating to the Jewish people of to-day.
When Mrs. Sanborn was taken sick on Dec. 16th last, one of her sisters was still living but died Dec. 17th at the age of 88 years. This sister and her family had been neighbors to the deceased in Canada and in Wisconsin.
Mrs. Sanborn died at the home of her son, Harley Sanborn, Monday at 9:20 a. m., Dec. 30, 1907, at the age of 81 years, 6 months and 15 days.
In later years, although afflicted by the loss of her hearing, she made much of reading and her interest in everything about her did not abate but continued to the last. She was a blessing to the home, to the children who so tenderly cared for her, and to the entire community.
Mrs. Sanborn’s departure means the loss of a good woman but the influence of the mature Christian character lives on in our midst.
Funeral services conducted by Rev. E. A. Lang were held in the Methodist Episcopal church at Lime Springs, Ia., New Years day at 2:30 o’clock.
