John Thuerk passed away early this morning with but scarcely any warning. He was about town yesterday as usual but at about 2 o'clock this morning was taken ill. He lived alone and early this morning endeavored to walk to the home of his son Max, but could not make the trip. He was assisted home and his son and a physician sent for, but he passed away soon after their arrival. The funeral takes place next Monday at the German Lutheran church.

Obituary.
THUERK
John Truerk was born in Horst, Pomerania, Germany, December 27, 1843, and died in Cresco, Iowa, December 13, 1907.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church, after the manner of that denomination, and remained a faithful member to life’s end.
From 1864 to 1867, he served in the Prussian army and was actively engaged in the campaign against Austria in 1866, after which he was discharged. He was later recalled to active service and took part in the Franco-Prussian War.
In 1872 he was united in marriage with Wilhelmina Heiser. Two sons born to this union, Fred, of Chicago, and Max, of this city, both of whom survive their father and were present at his funeral.
He came to America in 1892, staying a year in Chicago, where his wife died, and in 1893 he came {to} Cresco, which has since been his home.
In 1895, he married Sophia Evert, but the union was not congenial and they went their separate ways.
Our acquaintance with the deceased has been brief but pleasant. We have .known him as an honest, plain, working man, unpretentious and reliable. He | has been a liberal giver to the improvements made on the church where he j was a regular worshiper, and though at the time of his death the building was incomplete, yet he had selected the seat where he meant to be in attendance on divine service.'
“Man proposes, but God disposes.” The subject of our sketch seemed well until last Thursday when he was stricken with pains in the shoulder and back, and during that night he was stricken again, perhaps apoplectic, and Friday he died.
The funeral took place Monday afternoon in the church he loved so well and for which he had done so much to improve, conducted by his pastor, Rev. Pless. Interment was in New Oregon Cemetery.
