Loretta June Orum, age 93, passed away on February 13, at Wildwood Grove Care Center in LeRoy, MN. Funeral service will be held on Monday, February 18, at 11:00 a.m. at the LeRoy Lutheran Church with visitation for an hour before the service.
June was born to Fred and Florence Roesler in Lime Springs, IA on June 1, 1925. She graduated from LeRoy High School on June 3, 1943, and married Bob Orum on June 5, 1943 a day before he left for service in the Army Air Corps in WWII. They were blessed with five children, Ron, Barb, Gail, Don, and Craig and lived on a small farm on the edge of LeRoy for about 65 years before moving into Wildwood Grove Apartments.
June and Bob owned and operated the Sweet Shop Café in LeRoy for over 20 years starting in 1960. June was the head cook and known all over SE MN for her homemade meals and desserts. Farmers solved many of the world’s problems sitting at the marble counter eating her apple pie. Her coffee pot was always on for family and friends and a meal magically appeared. Her kindness was also woven into the dozens of crocheted afghans, wall hangings, baby sweaters, etc. that she made for others. June was strong role model for her children and grandchildren in the art of listening and caring for others. As a life-long member of the LeRoy Lutheran Church, she was involved in many aspects of study and service.
She is survived by her daughters, Barb (Steve) Milburn of Rochester, Gail (Donovan) Dahlby of Northwood, IA, her son Don (Judy) of LeRoy, a daughter-in-law Linda Orum of FL, 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces, nephews, and in-laws who call her sister.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Clifford, Norbert, and Chuck; two sons, Ron and Craig; and 1 grandson, Todd Timmerman.
The family would like to express thanks to the caregivers at Wildwood Grove who took loving care of their “June Bug” for many years.
