OBITUARY.
Edward Ladwig was born in Surkow, Pomerania, Germany, September 11th, 1856. When he grew to manhood he was drafted into the army, and entered that service as teamster. In 1881 he was united in marraige{sic} with Ernestine Jamrow, who survives him. This union was blessed with eight children, six sons and two daughters, of whom three preceded their father to The Better Land. He and his family came to America in 1891, and made his home at once on the farm where the family still resides.
His story is like that of most immigrants. By grim determination and hard work he made a living, and in a comparatively short time he was the possessor of a farm.
About five years ago his health began to fail. At intervals his mind also seemed to be clouded. He grew worse, and last September it was thought but to take him to the state hospital at Independence. December 22 of last year, he was dismissed; clear of mind, but a helpless, paralysed invalid. He died July 22.
Deceased had lived a consistent life as a member of the German Lutheran Church, He was a good neighbor, a faithful husband, a kind father, an honest man. Cut down in his prime, his loss will be felt by his family and the community.
The funeral was held Monday, at Davis Corners church; service conducted by the pastor, Rev, Pleas.
Interment was at Saratoga, by the side of a daughter who preceded him.Transriber’s Note: His gravestone shows his date of death as July 21.
