OBITUARY.
DARROW.
Walter Dwight Darrow, was born in Alburg, Grand Isle Co., Vermont, August 19, 1817, and departed this life in Cresco, at about three o’clock in the afternoon of Saturday, Nov. 25, 1905, in his 89th year. At his birthplace the deceased grew to manhood and on Dec. 29 1842, was married to Emeline Babcock. Four children were born to this union, Wesley, who died when seven years of age, Job, of Albion twp, Emeline, (now Mrs. Patterson of Chicago) and Francis of Cresco. Mrs. Darrow died March 23, 1853.
In the spring of 1855, he came to Howard County and pre-empted the farm in Albion Twp still owned by him at the time of his death, and where he lived until moving to Cresco in the summer of 1876. March 4, 1857, he was united in marriage to Eveline Carpenter who survives him. To this union one child was born, now Mrs. Sarah Hazeldine of this city. The deceased was a life long and faithful member of the M. E. church and for years and up to the time of his death had been one of the officials and wise counselors of the Cresco church.
The funeral was held Monday afternoon from the M. E church, Rev. Gammons officiating Interment was in Oak Lawn Cemetery
Neither tongue or pen can add honor or glory to the life so beautifully ended. Mr. Darrow was a man who needs no eulogy—his life was a sermon; his death a benediction. His life was calm and well ordered, fair and just, in every dealing with his fellow man; a friend ever to the weak and needy, he was one of those Christians altogether too rare in this day—a man whose spirituality shown out in his daily life so clearly and unmistakably that there was no need for man or priest to designate him as a Christian.
The bereaved family have the sympathy of all in their sad bereavement, but can find their greatest consolation in the memory of the long and well spent life of husband and father.
