OWENS
Born, in North Wales, Holeywell, Flint Shire, June 16, 1820; died, at his home in Albion township, northeast of Bonair, July 14, 1905, Robert Owens, aged 85 years and 28 days.
Mr. Owens came to America in 1847, settling in Wisconsin, where in 1850 he was married to Mary Owens, who survives him.
Mr. and Mrs. Owens were blest with eight children, five sons and three daughters. One of the boys died in infancy; the other four and the three daughters were all present at their father’s funeral.
The sons are R. D. Owens, of Bonair, Griffith Owens, of Cresco, John Owens of Minneapolis, and Matthew Owens of Lime Springs. The daughters are Elizabeth Conklin, of Michigan, Mrs. Thos. Hughs, of Lime Springs and Mrs. Robert Thomas, of Bonair.
Robert Owens had been sadly afflicted with blindness for the last fifteen years; this was all the more trying, as he was quite a student, especially in church doctrine.
He came to Iowa, from Wisconsin, in 1869, and located in Albion, which has been his home ever since. His life there has been the usual quiet life of a farmer; patiently doing each day’s duties as they came; bearing life’s burdens without complaint.
Funeral services were at the Welsh church last Sunday; Rev. Morris speaking in Welsh and Rev. Griffith in English. Interment was in Pleasant Hill cemetery.Transcriber’s note: His gravestone in Pleasant Hill Cemetery shows the spelling of his last name as Owen.
