VAN SLYKE.
Louise Fredericka Van Slyke, formerly Lehman, was born September 16, 1837, in Kienitz, Province Brandenberg, Germany. Soon after birth the child was baptized according to the rite in the Evangelical Lutheran church. She went to school from 6 to 14 years of age and after careful instruction in christian religion and life was confirmed. When 22 years old, she married August Emie in 1859. This union was blessed with 9 children, of whom 4 are living to mourn the loss of the dear mother. In 1878, the family came to America and settled in Silver Lake, near Glencoe, Minn. Two years afterwards her husband died. The 31st of May 1900, she married Mr. Samuel Van Slyke, at Riceville, and moved with him to Cresco, where they lived together a little over 5 years. Since December last she was confined to her bed, being paralysed. For all her sufferings, she was comforted by the consolation of God’s word, she never complained, but was always patient. Sunday, June 11, 1905, she prepared herself for a blessed end of life’s journey by taking the Lord's supper. Saturday, June 17, 1905, the merciful God called her away from this sinful world by a gentle death after much suffering. Funeral services were held in the German Lutheran church, Rev. C. Niedermeier officiating. Interment in Oak Lawn cemetery. She brought her life to 68 years, 9 months and 1 day. May she rest in peace until the great day of resurection.
