Obituary.
Clara T. Kratz was born Feb. 1st, 1875 in Lincoln twp., Winneshiek county, Iowa and died in the city of Chicago very suddenly without a moments warning t 7:30 Friday eve, Dec. 20th, 1901; bring her life to the age of 26 years 10 months and 19 days.
The immediate cause of her death was heart failure. Clara was converted to God when young in life and joined the Evangelical Association and remained faithful until death. She led a life beyond reproach.
For some years past she has been staying with relatives and engaged in different occupations in Chicago. But a short time ago she made known her desire to again return to her home where she was expecting to remain. Her own plan was to come home after Christmas. She did come home! Cold in death!! Her loved ones who looked forth for her return with great joy are to-day shedding tears of greatest grief and sorrow. She has gone to that eternal home from whence no oue{sic} ever returns.
Clara Kratz was a true, whole-hearted lady. She had hosts of friends. Her life was one of sunshine. Her chief delight was to make others happy; she thought not so much of herself, but rather forgetting self to help others. Those who knew her best were her best friends.
She leaves to mourn her untimely death a loving mother, a kind father, three brothers, four sisters, an aged grandmother besides many relatives and friends. Thus our great and painful loss is Heaven’s eternal gain. She has gone to join the angels. May God in His great and tender mercy comfort and bind our broken hearts and grant us a happy reunion in that Heavenly home where pain, parting and sorrow are unknown.
The remains were brought to Ridgeway, Iowa, on Tuesday noon, accompanied by her father, and immediately after the arrival was brought to her home. On Monday eve there were brief funeral services held in Chicago and on Thursday morning her remains were laid away in the Zion Church Cemetery near Ridgeway, Iowa. Her funeral services were conducted by Rev. Buente assisted by Revs. Schlung of the M. E. church and Lang, of Silver Creek, Iowa.

We lay thee in thy silent tomb
Sweet blossom of a day;
We just began to view thy bloom
When thou wert called away.

Friendship and love have done their last
And now can do no more;
The bitterness of death is past,
And all thy sufferings o’er.

Thou minglest now in that bright throng
Around the eternal throne;
And join’st the everlasting song
With those before thee gone.

The friends and relatives of Miss Clara Kratz were very much shocked on Saturday before Christmas, to receive a telegram that she had died very suddenly. Her father, William Kratz, immediately started for Chicago and returned with the body on Tuesday, and the funeral was held from the Kratz, Church, Thursday, December 26. Miss Clara was a very lovable young lady beloved by all who knew her. She has made her home for several years in Chicago. This fall she had quite a sick spell but was getting better and started down town with a friend when she complained of feeling so tired. She was taken into the nearest house, and before a doctor could get to her she was gone. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the friends in their affliction.
