Death of Mrs. Armagost, of Elma.
Mrs. Armagost had for some eight weeks been a severe sufferer and bore up with Christian fortitude. At half past nine o’clock on Thursday morning, Nov. 28th, she passed quietly away.
Emma V. Babcock was born at Palatine, Cook Co., Ill., on April 24th, 1852. She came to Chickasaw Co., Iowa, with her parents in 1861, living near Charles City. She was married with Absalom Armagost on Feb. 20th, 1871, and in 1887 came with her husband to Elma.
She was the mother of six children, the elder daughter being the wife of Rev. Lee A. Brink, of Waterville, Minn. One child died in infancy. The husband and five children remain to mourn her loss, also an aged mother, two brothers and three sisters.
Mrs. Armagost joined the Congregational church of Charles City twenty five years ago, and took her letter from there to become a charter member of the Elma Congregational church.
The spiritual fruit of her long connection with the church was richly manifest in her calm assurance at the hour of her departure, when she passed with confidence into the presence of the Saviour to whom she had given years of devotion.
The funeral services were conducted in the Elma Congregational church by Rev. N. L. Packard, of Riceville. A large number of friends mourn her early departure from this life.Transcriber’s Note: Her gravestone in Howard Cemetery shows her date of birth as April 25, 1852.
