In Memorium.
Ruth Allie Mae Burnett, born In Cresco, Iowa, Dec. 13th, 1898, died in Protivin, Iowa, Nov. 3rd, 1901, aged 2 years 10 months and 20 days.
Ruth Allie Mae, our darling,
Sunlight of our hearts and home,
Thou hast fallen asleep in Jesus;
Left our sore hearts sad and lone.

All old earth’s hard, rugged pathway,
Those dear little foot have passed.
Short thy mission, Baby darling;
Thy young life too sweet to last.

How a voice doth pierce the stillness
Of our once bright, happy home,
Stillness so intense we feel it,
Feel the blackness of its gloom.

But the voice in love would cheer us,
Groping, heart-sick, for our God;
Weep not for I love thee, children,
Though I lead the ’neath the rod.

Though a strong earth ties riven,
Though thy hearts seem all bereft,
You’ve a saluted heir in heaven,
Sweetest thought you still have left.

Though your little darling cometh
No more to your hungry hearts.
You may go to her in Heaven,
Home where loved ones never part.

Other babes as sweet may claim thy
Father-hood and mother-hood,
Though in love I chide my children,
Still. I lead then ’neath the rod.
—A Friend.

The Angel of Death paid us his unexpected and undesirable visit since our last correspondence by taking away in the prime of life two of our good neighbors, Will Huber aged about 35 years, and Joseph Kostka aged 35 years who died Oct. 29th, after less than a week’s sickness; both were prominent members of the M. W. A , then the only child of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Burnett died Nov. 3rd.
