Obituary.
Adaline M. Barnes died at the residence of her sister, Mrs. Jno. E. Peck, in Cresco, Iowa on the 3d day of Sept. 1901.
She was born in the town of Marshall, Oneida county, New York, and was the eldest of a family of eight children, five girls and three boys. Her parents, two sisters and three brothers, preceeded her to their home in the “great beyond.” There are two sisters, Mrs. Rial Brown of Lamar, Barton county, Mo., and Mrs. Jno. E. Peck of Cresco, Iowa, who survive her and mourn her loss. She came West with her parents in the year 1852 and located on a farm near Darien, Wis., where they made their home for twenty years or more. On account of the failing health of Father Barnes the farm was sold and they removed to their home in Delevan, Wis., where she lived until the death of her parents. Miss Barnes was ever a kind and devoted daughter, a loving and affectionate sister a true and womanly woman. Her life work was school teaching. Her love for an adaptability to her work made her a successful teacher.
She taught in the public schools of McGregor and Cresco, Iowa, and Delevan, Wis.
She was a member of the 1st Cong’l. church of Delevan and ever lived a conscientious Christian life, and up to the time of her failing health was regular attendant and took an active part in all church work.
For the last two years her home has been with her sister, Mrs. Jno. E. Peck, when the dread summons came and she was called from earth.
A short funeral service was held at her sisters home conducted by the Rev. C.A.Marshall, who in life had known her well.
Her remains were taken to Darien, Wis., for interment, there to be laid in final rest beside the dearly loved ones who had “gone before."

Transcriber's Note: Find-a-Grave indicates her first name was spelled Adeline and that she was born in 1832.
