Old Settler of Howard County Gone
G. W. Harlow died at his home in Sacramento, California, June 20, l901, aged 74 years. Geo. Harlow with wife and two children came from Madison, Wis., in 1854, settling in New Oregon grove, with a few other families, forming the first settlement of New Oregon twp. He owned a farm, also a saw mill near his farm on Turkey river. He was a good citizen of Howard county. In 1863, he with his family moved to Sacramenty, Cal., where they have resided to the present time. During his first year in Call., deceased was considerably interested in mining, later in farming and fruit growing, besides holding several different offices. When feeble health came on, retiring to their city home, where with his lifes companion he spent the last several years devoted to the religion of his choice in early manhood. He leaves to mourn his death, wife and four married children, two sons and two daughters, his oldest son having preceded him to the better land two years ago.
Mr. Harlow was an uncle of Mrs. J. Hayse of this place, with whom she had a home in childhood.
