John B. Stevens, Dead.
Deceased was a native of Belgium, born in 1822, and died at his home Northwest of Cresco, Sunday, July 14, 1901, aged 79 years. A sketch of him in the history of Howard county says he came to the United States in 1859, spent 13 years in the South, locating in this county immediately thereafter, uniting in marriage with Miss Mary Price one year afterward. Eight children were born to them, and all are living in this county. John B. Stevens was an honest man, and a good citizen .He had been ailing from the effects of paralysis since the last winter and front its effects had been confined to the house since then.Source: Twice-A-Week Plain Dealer July 19, 1901, FP, C4
Mr. John B. Stevens left six sons and two daughters by his first wife and three children by his second wife all of whom but one daughter were present at his funeral. He had been confined to the house from the effects of paralysis most of the time from March until a few weeks ago and Sunday morning he was again prostrated passing away about one o’clock Monday morning. Shortly after taken he expressed a desire to see the children and bid them good bye.
