Marshall Gager Killed.
Marshall Gager, a former Cresco resident, was instantly killed in a grade crossing accident at Minneapolis last Saturday evening.
Mr. Gager, who resided at 2320 Quincy St., was on board a street car on his way home about 6:15 in the evening, on a street car which was struck by a Northern Pacific switch engine, a mistaken lantern signal by a flagman indicating a clear crossing being the cause. About 85 persons were crowded in the car and Gager was the only one killed, being caught between the street car and the engine, which it is alleged backed into the car after it had first struck and while the people were getting out of the car. About 20 were injured more or less severely.
Mr. Gager was long a resident of Cresco, and before leaving a few years ago for Minneapolis, was employed in the Hunttlng elevator. His wife is a sister of A. N. Wentworth, who left for Minneapolis yesterday morning, in response to a telegram regarding the accident; Elmer Gager, of Kendallville, also went yesterday.
