Mrs. Barnhart, the wife of Benjamin Barnhart, who died at Spring Valley, was buried in this neighborhood (Lime Springs) on Thursday of last week. She died with consumption, and had been in poor health a number of years. We give the following interesting item in the life and religious history of Mrs. B. Two years ago the coming summer she was supposed to be in the last stages of consumption, and although extremely feeble, had a great desire to be baptized, as she loved the Savior and wished to obey his commands. Some thought it would be rash and imprudent, but she insisted on being baptized. So one beautiful sabbath evening, in the month of July or August, she was taken in an easy buggy to the water side below the dam at the Old Town, where quite a company of the neighbors had assembled. During prayer and singing the pale, emaciated yet joyful condidate, sat in an easy rocking chair thoroughly cushioned with pillows, and then, with a firm step, supported by the Elder on one side and Deacon Reynolds on the other, she walked down into the water and was baptized, and went on her way rejoicing. She rallied against the destroyer and so far recovered her strength that she was able to care for her family and lived until a few days ago. She died trusting in the Savior.
