Mr. J. Halpine died Wednesday, Nov. 16th. He had been in failing health for some time. We are without facts for a more extended notice.

OBITUARY.
HALPINE.
John Halplne was born in county Mealth, near Drogheda, Ireland, about 72 years ago, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. F. Daley, Cresco, Iowa. Nov. 15, 1904.
His father dying when he was a small boy, he assisted his mother in carring{sic} for her large family till he was about 20 years old when he came to America, his mother and family soon following him
On June 15, 1856 he was married to Catherine Stack at Danbury, Conn., by Rev. Father Smith. Shortly after his marriage he came to Iowa at the solicitation of friends. Having looked the country over, he concluded its hardships would be too severe for his wife whose health was always delicate, and having purchased 40 acres of land near Lourdes, Iowa, as a souvenir of his visit, he returned to his home at Ridgefield, Conn., where were born their four children, Mrs. Mary J Daley, and Robert L. Halpine of Cresco, Iowa, John, and James H. Halpine of Omaha, Neb.
In 1878 he again came west, buying a farm in Paris twp., where he resided till the death of his wife July 31, 1884.
A few years after the death of his wife he sold his farm and has since made his home with his daughter at Cresco, Iowa, with occasional visits with his sons at Omaha, Neb. His children were all with him and assisted in carrying{sic} for him during his last illness.
The requiem high mass was sung by Rev. Father M. A. McCartey, Church of the Assumption, Cresco, Iowa. Interment at Lourdes, Iowa, Rev. Father Nelson officiating at the cemetery where he was laid to rest beside his wife.

Transcriber’s Note: His date of death varies above. His gravestone shows he was born July 24, 1831.
