E. I. Isbell, one of the early settlers of Howard county, died at the home of his daughter in California last week. Obituary later.

ISBELL.
Elon I. Isbell was born Dec. 23, 1828, at Whitestown, Oneida Co., N. Y. His father died when he was three years of age. In a few years he, with his mother, came to Ohio to live, where he lived until he was 16 years of age. Then he went to Baraboo, Wis., where he lived two years, came to Tama Co., Iowa, remaining ten years. From there he came to Howard County, Iowa, in 1856. July 22, 1858, was united in marriage with Miss Angeline Brock, in New Oregon, Iowa. Three children came to bless their home: Alice M., Arthur W. and Mary L., who, with the lonely widow, are left to mourn his death. He lived on his farm until 1897, then, with his wife, went to Santa Paula, Cal., for his health. Was benefited but not cured.
Oct. 22, 1904, departed this life near Santa Paula, was taken to Whittier, Cal., the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mary L. Moore, for burial.
While yet a young man in school in Oberlin, Ohio, he united with the Free Will Baptist church, In 1870 he joined the Second Advent church, was a member of that body at the time of his death,
