Another of the old residents of Cresco has passed away, John Milz dying last Thursday evening at about six o’clock at his home in this city. Deceased was at one time a merchant of Cresco, but afterwards conducted a farm until a few years ago when failing health caused him to leave the farm and move into town. The funeral was held yesterday morning from the German Catholic church. We will publish an obituary in our next issue.

OBITUARY.
John Milz died at his home in Cresco, Iowa, Friday, April 8, 1904. Mr. Milz was born in the city of Cologne, Germany, and emigrated to the United States when a young man, settling in Whitewater, Wis. Here in 1856, he married Miss Catherine Mullenburg, and together they traveled life's journey, sharing its pleasures and its sorrows for nearly forty-eight years.
In 1866 he came to Cresco and engaged in the general mercantile business, in a wooden building where the Daniel Platt store is now located. Mr. Milz was a prominent and active member of the business circles of Cresco for a number of years, honest and fair in all his dealings with his fellow men.
In 1877 he sold out his business in Cresco and moved onto a farm in Howard Center township. About six years ago, al1 account of failing health, he moved with his family to Cresco, which has since been his home.
Funeral services were held in the German Catholic church Monday morning, April 11th. Requiem High Mass was celebrated by Rev. Father Loosbrock. The large church was filled to its utmost capacity with neighbors and friends who came to pay their last respects to the memory of the departed.
Mr. Milz leaves to mourn his loss a beloved wife and seven children, four sons and three daughters, all of whom were present at the funeral, save the oldest son, Henry, of Norton, Kansas, who was prevented from coming on account of sickness. The children present were: Mrs. J. J. Achatz, Doon, Iowa; Mrs. August Sudteigt, Le Mars, Iowa; Miss Mae Milz, St. Cloud, Minn.; John Milz, Clearwater, Minn.; Will and Charles Milz of Cresco. Other relatives of the family present were, Mr. and Mrs. John Ernster, Canton, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Achatz, Preston, Minn.; Wm. Achatz, Harmony, Minn.
Interment was in St. Joseph’s cemetery.
