Another Old Settler Called.
It becomes our painful duty to record the death of L. F. Emmons, at his home in New Oregon last Friday night.
The deceased had been a resident of the county from its early settlement and had participated in its history and progress, taking an active and influential part in all that was for its good. He had represented his town on the county board of supervisors and in other capacities, always to its best interests. Though a strong republican upon national questions he was very independent in exercising the right of suffrage in local county matters, giving his vote to the man of merit regardless of party. As a man and a neighbor he was above reproach. He had been a friend and patron of the PLAIN DEALER from its first issue in 1859 to the time of his death in 1904, nearly 45 years. For all these years he had been on terms of friendship and intimacy that brings pain and sorrow that he has been called to answer the last summons. We hope to have the data for an obituary of the deceased for our next issue. The funeral occurs at 10:30 this morning at the residence.
