OBITUARY.
Andrew J. Mintey was born at Ringwood, County Hampshire, England on the 7th day of June, 1834.
In 1855, at the age of 21, he emigrated to America, settling in Hudson, Summit county, Ohio.
In 1859 he united in marriage to Miss Sarah Witty of the same place.
In the spring of 1862 to serve his adopted country, he enlisted in the 9th Ohio Battery, serving until the close of the war, when returned home, settling in business until 1869, when he removed to Howard county, Iowa, residing in Albion township ever since.
His wife with two sons, Charles and Frank, and two daughters, Mrs. Jennie Clark and Mrs. Lillie Peckham, survive him, and also two brothers and one sister Fred and Frances in England and Alfred of New Oregon, Howard county.
Last winter he realized that disease had fastened upon him but he could not give up the daily duties that had become a habit from years of industry. His cheer and uncomplaining manner deceived his loved ones who did not know how seriously he was afflicted.
Three weeks ago he consulted Dr. Mayo who told that tuberculosis was his enemy since which time he failed daily and passed to the home not made with hands July 30th, 1903.
His life was a sermon of kind deeds and pleasant words; he made no professions, but his daily walk inspired confidence and good will among his fellows and he never failed those who trusted him. His going leaves the wife alone in the home after forty-four years of marital comradship.
Funeral services were conducted at the home Sunday. Rev. O. A. Marshall gave an address of tender sympathy and deep feeling. Twenty-four veterans of Memorial Post escorted their comrade to the Nichols cemetery and repeated their burial ceremony at his grave.
