CONWAY.
Mrs. John Conway, whose maiden name was Mary Keefe, was born in Manchester, Canada, Dec. 25, 1831.
While she was yet a small child her parents moved to Clinton, N. Y., where she grew to womanhood. It was here she married John Conway, Nov. 18, 1852. They lived in New Yark{sic} until 1863, when they moved to Iowa settling in Howard county. Mr. Conway died March 23, 1891. About eleven years ago Mrs. Conway began to suffer from rheumatism and was later stricken with paralysis. During her residence with her son Dan at Elma she was practically helpless, but during all of her suffering she was patient and uncomplaining. She was the mother of nine boys, six of whom survive her: Charles and Michael, of Oelwein; Frank, of Pueblo, Col. and J. W., D. R. and A. D., of this place. Charles Keefe and M. L. Keefe, formerly of Charles City, are her only surviving brothers in the west.
We were not privileged to be personally acquainted with this good lady but we are much impressed with the high regard in which she was held by all who knew her. She was a woman of strong character whose dominating traits were industry, family affection and deep religious feeling. She was always proud of “her boys,” and their parting with her now is one of the hardest tasks they have ever had.
The funeral was held today, Thursday March 12th, at 10 o’clock, at the Catholic church, Rev. F. J. Gunn conducting the services. Burial in the Catholic church.
The following relatives from a distance were at the funeral which was one of the largest in the history of the parish: M. L. Keefe and Robert Riordan and wife, of Charles City; R. J. Woods and Chas. Burns, of Cresco and Charles and Michael and their wives of Oelwein and Eddie Conway, Oelwein—Elma New Era.
